Given the state of contemporary poetry and publishing, I decided to launch my third collection ‘The Magnetic Mountain’ by placing it inside a bottle and hurling it into the sea where it belongs. This initial launch took place on the banks of the River Foyle, downstream from the city of Derry in North-West Ireland, by the lighthouse at Culmore Point, overlooking Lishally which was a Soviet nuclear target during the Cold War and where the Nazi U-boat fleet surrendered after the fall of Berlin. Future launches of the collection will take place on the Thames, the Mekong and the Chao Phraya rivers, with others to follow. The currents will determine the book’s readership.
